In recent decades, design professionals have noted a strong focus on cozy and warm personalized spaces, and they predict that furniture designs for the coming year will rely on the same visual aesthetic. “Furniture designs will feature bold, rich colors with retro style and eco-friendly materials. All these trends, when combined, will lead to an artistic design style that is rich and layered in comfort,” states interior designer Cheryl Clendenon.
As experts continued their work on predicting upcoming trends, we followed up with a few multi-disciplinary interior designers and asked them their main predictions. “Timelessness will characterize spaces in 2025; everything is personalized,” concludes Clendenon.

Rich-Tone Woods
“The domination of light woods over the years has been a concern for me, which is why the current shift to darker hues of wood, particularly walnuts and dark oaks, is pleasantly surprising. These types of wood feel warm, luxurious, and very much grounded. Apart from that, they also serve as perfect antiques for modern spaces. A while back, I had a design project for an office which was meant to be moody yet still bright, so I decided to incorporate some of Giancarlo Valle’s Fin chairs, and their rich materiality worked perfectly.” – Brad Thornton, founder of Brad Thornton Projects.
Custom Skirts on Seating
“To give your furniture items a more custom and personal touch, choose a specialty skirt. These skirts, which range from box pleats to fan pleats and ruffles or scallops, add personality and texture to any space.”—Bria Hammel, CEO and Creative Director of Bria Hammel Interiors.
Patinated Antiques
“Loved furnishings are those with patinated antiques mixed with contemporary pieces. Pairing a dark walnut desk with a light chair in a fun, fresh embroidery feels fresh. This contrast makes it visually interesting and does not make you feel at grandma’s house.” “–Christine Markatos Lowe, founder of Christine Markatos Design”
Natural Stone Tables
“This season, we can expect color-drenched spaces to be highlighted by furniture carved out of natural stone. Emerald marble side tables will shine in deep green spaces, while vintage viola-inspired tones will give rest to walls colored deep aubergine. In the other image, a sculptural chocolate brown marble table evokes a sultry lounging area of a primary suite. We furnished the space with a dark velvet rug, a sleek leather armchair, warm chocolate walls, and sculptural wooden furnishings.
The bar also features smoked and amber glass bottles, which evoke warmth and sophistication. When the space is filled with colors drawn from the natural stone centerpiece, we anchor the room to transcend blended borders and create an immersive and inviting atmosphere. This shift in perspective urges homeowners to reconsider how their furniture pieces and color choices will impact the created atmosphere.” Autumn Oser, Haldon House co-founder.
Accent Pieces With Organic, Fluid Lines
“It’s certain that connecting with nature will continue to be a part of 2025’s furniture design trends. Furniture with soft, organic curves will benefit the most as people continue to want more of the outdoors. This console table is made of hand-forged iron in the shape of a tree or vine, and the top is made of natural wood. Contrasts of nature add the finishing touch and can be placed in any space for natural integration.” –Margaret Donaldson, MDI Luxury Design.
Vintage Starburst Mirrors
“Starburst mirrors… were mostly found in Catholic churches in the 18th century. They didn’t make their way into residential houses until the 1920s and have since become one of my favorite accent pieces. Vintage ones are the best as they contain such intricately handmade details, unlike today’s mass-produced mirrors. What I love about these mirrors is their versatility, which makes them cool for any room.
We will start seeing these mirrors return 100 years after they were first introduced to the American household. Starburst mirrors are an amazing way to draw people’s attention to a given area, whether the room is big or small. They serve as extravagant accent pieces, which is why these mirrors make such an impact.” – Betty Ann Gilrain, founder of Betty Ann Gilrain Studio.
Upholstered Chair Legs
“We don’t mind a classic turned leg, but when the silhouette is designed to feature an upholstered leg, we are here for it. This is unique; it looks and feels modern and fresh, yet it also manages to be classic simultaneously.” – Michelle Gage, Creative Director and Founder, Michelle Gage Interiors.
Statement Coffee Tables
“Statement coffee tables are becoming more popular, adding interest and character to the living space, which drove their demand high, anchoring the space brilliantly with bold materials, shapes, and colors. They will compliment the room beautifully, so using them in an area with low decor is best.
Sculptural coffee tables made of durable natural materials and finishes, on the other hand, can be placed anywhere. Another approach to embracing the statement coffee table trend is to replace the table with any other unconventional item, such as a vintage trunk. It is the perfect height and works as a stunning accent piece.” – Audrey Scheck, founder and principal designer of Audrey Scheck Design.
